Manual Driving Lessons

Some schools charge more for one than the other. We do not. Manual and automatic lessons cost exactly the same hourly rate, so you can choose the gearbox that suits you rather than the cheaper one. If you are not sure which is right for you, your instructor will happily talk it through on your first lesson.

Passing in a manual gives you the widest freedom on the road. You will be able to drive any hire car, work van or friend’s car without a second thought, and you will never be limited when buying a used car, where manuals are often cheaper. Learning clutch control and gears also gives you a deeper feel for the car, which many learners find makes them smoother, more aware drivers.

Our instructors live and work locally, so early lessons start on calmer residential streets before building up to busier routes like the Ilford one way system, the Gants Hill roundabout or Stratford High Street. Whichever area you are in, we plan lessons around the roads examiners actually use at your local test centre, whether that is Goodmayes or Wanstead.

The DVSA suggests most learners need around 45 hours of professional lessons plus some private practice before they are test ready, though it is different for everyone. After your first couple of lessons we will give you an honest estimate so you can plan your budget and your test date. • The cockpit drill, controls and safe use of the clutch, gears and biting point
• Moving off, stopping and clutch control on hills and in slow traffic
• Junctions, roundabouts and lane discipline on real East London roads
• The manoeuvres: parallel parking, bay parking, pulling up on the right and the turn in the road
• Independent driving, dual carriageways and busy town centre traffic
